Re: MIDI filtering in Cubase 5

Thanks for that tip. One thing I would add (only because when I first tried it, it didn't work). At the bottom of the input transformer box is a button that will either say "function transform" or "function filter". If it says "transform" then click on that word, a drop...

Dan

Absolutely wonderful piece. I think I might have to invest in that Sonicculture Balinese set.

A alternative technique which doesn't use scripting is to set up several scale and rhythm rules but use rhythmic style of composition rather than pattern. Scales Use T and 5 for gongs T, 4, and 5 for punctuating gongs complete slendro for other melodic instruments (weighting slightly to T, 4 and 5 R...

Notes to composing gamelan stylee

As Pete started talking about Gamelan I thought I would share a few tips about polyrhythmic gamelan composing. One thing that fascinated me about gamelan music (as a composer with no musical training) was that, with a couple of exceptions (lead drummer and lead trompong player), what everyone is pla...

Further to Kenzak's post - for those on limited budgets there is a very good collection of samples called "Heart of Asia" which includes many gamelan instruments. The audio version of this cost £70 see http://www.timespace.com/product/HOA-10/6/gamelan/Heart+of+Asia+%5BAudio%5D.html It does mean that...

Hello all I have just added to thread to the scripting asking how to get fixed pattern variations within a piece as one of the ways I create gamelan pieces is to use multiple patterns (chosen at random but using % choices) on each midi part. For each midi part a choice of ten or twelve patterns may ...

Thanks Pete

That works perfectly. I had initially tried to move individual columns to no avail but being able to adjust the width of all values columns is infinitely better.

Hi Pete That is good news and I can wait for the new release. The piece I sent yesterday in the zip file - Maystream - (together with Koan file and text listing conversion) was one that I had experienced the hanging note at the end of the piece. As I mentioned this was use in standalone Noatikl vers...

Intermorphic Introductions?

Just a suggestion but you could have a sub-section in general forum where members can introduce themselves and say a little about how they use generative programs. Perhaps list their influences etc, so that we can contact like-minded souls and perhaps collaborate on projects. I just think it would b...

It is behaving very well - no crashes so far, stable recordings, great midi recordings, doesn't bring in dead frogs and uses its litter tray very neatly when required. I think that the most depressing thing for you is probably having ex-Koan users missing features that they are so used to. You are b...

Resolved: Scale Rules view: Auto Size

I am not sure if this is a bug or not. I have been adding lots of scales to the Scale Rules View. Because quite a few of the names are long I want these viewable so I used the divider to move the scale values to the right. I tried using the auto-size all columns feature but it made no impression. Pe...

Koan Loop Gurooviness

I used Koan Pro to generate elements for tracks on several Loop Guru Albums. Mostly to create added orchestration, tuned percussion sections, percussion variations, or just general weirdness. Sometimes, though, Koan played an essential part in the initial composition of a piece. Albums Koan Pro was ...

Fixed: Koan Import: Scale Rules

I have been importing some Koan pieces. On one of my previous Koan templates I had around 40 scale rules. Two pieces created with this template produced two different import errors both the "scale rules" view 1) one truncated the list and imported around 20. 2) one doubled the last twenty five but t...
