Standalone version & soft synths - newbie qs

Postby dubbly » Tue Jan 03, 2012 12:44 am

Hi All,
I have been enjoying playing around on my onboard cheap nasty Wavetable soundcard but I don't have a DAW or sequencer to access lots more vsts. I'm running as a standalone. Can Noatikl use vsts etc without a DAW? How can I access more sounds with Noaktikl in standalone.

Welcome.

You can use Noatikl standalone without a DAW with any software synth or sampler that also as a standalone version. I often use Noatikl directly with Kontakt for example. You just need a virtual midi interface like MidiYoke/MidiPipe etc to connect one to the other.

Or, you could just grab a copy of Reaper for "evaluation" and use it to host whichever VSTis you like.

There are also a couple of freeware VST host applications if you just want to use a VSTi like a standalone soft synth and don't want/need to run a whole DAW. I don't think there are any of these on the Mac platform but if you are on Windows try MiniHost. Used to work for me very nicely.

Ah wicked stuff, A combo of minihost and midiyoke did the trick.

Thanks Mark!

Just to note that Noatikl 2 is intended to include the Partikl synth from Mixtikl at some point, as a "built-in" alternative to MIDI output.

Best wishes,

Pete

download probs newbie qs

Postby dubbly » Wed Jan 04, 2012 11:37 am

Thanks Pete.

On another matter. I purchased a GenElements pack from you guys yesterday but the zip says "cannot open file: does not appear to be a valid archive....if you downloaded this file, try downloading the file again"

I've tried downloading the file again with no joy.

Am I doing something wrong?

Hi dubbly,

That is weird - I wonder if the file got corrupted in the download some way?

If you mail support @ intermorphic.com, we'll sort things out ASAP!

Best wishes,

Pete

OK, thanks! Tim is on leave today I think (still recovering from Christmas, no doubt!); so I'd guess he'd deal with this tomorrow...?

Best wishes,

Pete
