Clusters? A question of technique?

Postby transducr » Sun Sep 28, 2008 4:51 am

So, I find that notes in my Noatikl compositions seem to occur in clusters. Even when I'm setting the voices up in such a way that I think they should be happening more randomly.

I'm trying to think of ways to get the voices to play more evenly spaced. Playing opposite each other more and simultaneously less.

Any insights from my fellow Noatiklers?

Sounds like you need to tweak your phrase settings (length and/or gaps). Why don´t you post your piece so we can all have a look?

It's not a particular piece, just a sort of general thing. Your instinct is the same as mine was. The first thing I reached for were the phrase settings, but they don't really stop Noatikl from wanting to group phrases closely to one another when it's choosing options within these ranges.

I suppose I could try some fixed gaps or gaps with small ranges that would mathematically reduce the instances of synchronicity.

The next note rule and the "harmonize?" parameter are other possible culprits constraining note selection.
