Noatikl Standalone crashes

Postby soundscribe » Mon Dec 30, 2013 5:15 pm

Hi There,

I'm a new user and experimenting with Noatikl. My DAW is Sonar X2 and I'm using loopmidi as my midi loopback device.

I'm getting a crash under unknown circumstances. The crash seems to happen when I direct the midi output to the loopmidi device. Loop midi is akin to midi yoke FWIW.

The Noatikl screen just disappears. Here is the crash info from the Windows 7 application event log.

Faulting application name: Noatikl.exe, version: 0.0.0.0, time stamp: 0x5278e455
Faulting module name: Noatikl.exe, version: 0.0.0.0, time stamp: 0x5278e455
Exception code: 0xc0000005
Fault offset: 0x00000000003c2511
Faulting process id: 0x17d4
Faulting application start time: 0x01cf04e8da5a8721
Faulting application path: C:\Program Files\intermorphic\noatikl\Noatikl.exe
Faulting module path: C:\Program Files\intermorphic\noatikl\Noatikl.exe
Report Id: 8d55416b-70df-11e3-a58c-386077d50eb8

Next, I think I'll try using Noatikl as a plugin. So far, I've had 3 crashes in the short while I've been playing with it. I can try with midi yoke (also installed) and see if I have the same issues.

Any other advice? Should I be running Noatikl as a VST plugin in Sonar instead?

Thanks,

Dave

Hi Dave,

Thanks for getting in touch, and sorry to hear of your crash.

So far as I can tell, Windows isn't as friendly as Mac in terms of reporting details about crashes (on Mac, we get a lot more information on where in the code any crash occurs), so alas I can't tell too much from the Windows crash report :(

Anyhow, in terms of approaches to follow, I'd certainly recommend trying MIDI Yoke as an alternative, as that would quickly establish if Loop MIDI were the cause of your problem (I'm not familiar with that tool!).

I'd suggest trying to get Noatikl Standalone working first; as on Windows you often have a MIDI routing issue anyhow (many hosts don't allow the MIDI output from a VSTi plug-in such as Noatikl, to route to a VSTi synth - Reaper is a good exception here, and that might be worth a play with if you're considering the VSTi route!).

Best wishes,

Pete

I'm receiving the same crash report whenever I attempt to create a new piece.

Hi!

I'm very sorry to hear of your crash - alas, there wasn't much information in the crash report. :(

Can you please tell me exactly which version of Windows you're using, and the exact steps you follow in the user interface to reproduce the crash? I'll then try to reproduce the crash on my development machine, using (hopefully!) the same version of Windows.

Best wishes,

Pete
