The Forum itself

Postby A4 Footprint » Sun Feb 10, 2008 7:47 pm

Just reporting a small annoyance with the Forum itself. Whenever I log in, all the dates of the individual posts are replaced by a single 'c' character. This happens in both Firefox and Safari on my Mac. When I'm logged out the dates are displayed but, of course, I can't get into the intersting areas of the forum.

Hi!

Well, that is strange...!

The date text is generated on the server side, so my expectation would be that if one person sees this happening then we'd all see the problem...!

If you were to "View Source" for such a displayed web page [firefox/mac - right click or ctrl-click on the page background, select View Page Source], do you see the C character in there in lots of places, or do you see the date text instead?

I use Firefox on Mac and don't have this problem.

But... I do wish this forum had a "keep me logged in" option :-)

cheers

We're currently evaluating upgrading the phpBB software to the next version; which might help. :D

Hi Pete,

When I view source, I get the date text if I'm not logged in, and the 'c' character if I am logged in.

We hope that phpBB3 will fix things when we manage to move over to that!

Still the same problem for me, despite the new look...

Arrrgh... that is a pain. :(

I wonder what it could be, maybe font-related or something along those lines? I'm stumped!

Problem solved - user error!

I'm a fanatic about date format, so whenever I join a forum, I always set the date representation to be 'YYYY-MM-DD' or, in php string terms 'Y-m-d'. Somehow the date display format in my user control panel got changed to be custom with the string as 'c'.

D'oh!

That's the first thing I should have looked at. Apologies for wasting your time folks!
