Basic Question -Notes C1 to B1 only?

Postby spidergod » Fri Feb 14, 2014 9:18 am

Hello

This is probably a very basic question but how would I get a piece to play only notes between C1 and B1?

Have some synths that are very specific about midi note ranges and would like noatikl to power them.

thanks

Hi

Unless I am misunderstanding the question, you would do this by setting the Pitch param (for a voice) to be 24-C1 and then the Pitch Range to be 11.

It might also be more obvious what is going on wrt the scale rule if you set the Piece Root to be C.

Ok an trying to use Uvi Defcon 1

It says the midi mapping is set as C1 - B2 and keys control global tune allowing chromatic playback.

Have been experimenting a bit further and need a little bit of help in smoothing the piece between the changes in scale.
Any help much appreciated.

I have attached the noatikl file and midi file and also a link to a test track snippet.

ok it will not allow me to attach the midi file.

Hmm I don't know of that. All I know is that if you did the above in Noatikl, then Noatikl will only play/send notes from C1-B1! If you want a chromatic scale (i.e. equal weighting of all notes C1-B1 then just change the voice's scale rule to allow all notes, and also the voice's harmony rule.

That helps a lot I think. You have two voices, an ambient voice with units set to thousands of a second and a voice that follows that (but I do not know what that it for).

OK, so it sounds like you are getting a bit of jumping about, prob because you are not sending out notes on bar boundaries as you are using ambient voices with units set to time. There are 3 things to try:

1) Change the first voice (set up as an Ambient voice) to use Units of "Beats 60th" and then change the Duration etc to make sense in beats, or
2) Change the first voice to be of voice type Rhythmic and then configure the Rhythm rule used by it to be what you need. Also maybe change the Phrase length etc or even the Piece tempo
3) Change the first voice to be of voice type Fixed Pattern and then use a pattern.\

Might make sense to mute the Following Voice for now, until you have it working!

Thanks.

Have changed the voice to rhythmic and it is sounding much better.
Now need to slow the changes down slightly but am having problems finding the sweet spot :(
Any hints on tweaking the slowdown will be great.

Hi, could not play the soundcloud file as it was not there, so I don't quite know what you mean about slowdown. Do you mean for the sections to last longer, but still to have some variety? If you want to run the piece at 120bpm, then you are better off setting the voice type to Pattern and to try a pattern like say <50 R 480><50 R 240 240> as there is no way (currently) to have a Rhythm rule value greater than a whole note.

I have now made the soundcloud link viewable and listenable.

I will try the pattern rule setup and see what happens.

thanks
