5.1.0.6 Key Feature Additions / Changes

Mixtikl for Android:
--------------
• Yes, we finally did it! This release brings Android support and the Android version is available exclusively (for now) through the Amazon Appstore for Android service
• Android version specific notes-
- No mic recording yet
- No http connection for file sharing (and no iTunes sharing, obviously!)
- No in-app purchase yet
- Tweet export doesn't use a built-in twitter client - just puts the mixtikl on the clipboard
- Runs at any screen size
- Builds are configured to have higher latency than iOS versions to cater for devices with lower performance; see Menu > Settings and Sample Frames/Block count if you want to experiment with achieving lower latency in the Visualiser mode.

Other Changes:
--------------
• Cleaner, better looking UI that is also suitable for higher res devices such as the new iPad
• UI now works much better in landscape
• Smoother movement between screens
• Browser plugin now discontinued, and the app is used as a handler for mixtikls (which are URLs). This is more portable and future proof. As of this post mixtikls will only play with the Desktop / mobile app as a helper (as opposed to via the browser plugin as they did in the past). For desktop you will need to have Mixtikl 5.1.0.6 + installed
• Bug fixes

IMPORTANT NOTE FOR USERS OF MIXTIKL / MIXTIKL FREE FROM THE MAC APP STORE:
--------------
Due to a new requirement from Apple wrt sandboxing for apps sold via the Mac App Store we had to change to where Mixtikl stores files.

Mixtikl files for the Mixtikl 5.1.0.6 + App Store version (free/full) are now saved and loaded to/from this folder:
~/Library/Containers/com.intermorphic.mixtikl/Data/Library/Mixtikl/intermorphic/mixtikl/paks/User_Content/

Whereas they used to be here instead:
~/Library/Mixtikl/intermorphic/mixtikl/paks/User_Content/

Simply move your files from the former to the new directory. You may need to restart Mixtikl.

SUPPLEMENTARY NOTE:
In your mix, if you use or link to audio files that are not in the IM Tiklpaks (e.g. perhaps your own sample loops or recordings), then you must also move those loops to the above folder and relink from there. Sorry, but this is all to do with the Apple sandbox requirement. Everything used by an app has to be within its sandbox.

Note for Mixtikl Free users:
--------------
Mixtikl Free is not Mixtikl (Full). As we regularly extend the features in Mixtikl (Full) we also change the balance of features accessible in Mixtikl Free to reflect what is current in Mixtikl (Full). If you want access to all the Mixtikl features, simply purchase the inexpensive Mixtikl (Full)!

♥ We hope you love our regular Mixtikl updates and we thank you for your fantastic reviews and support! We listen and respond!

I've got the new Android version for my Kindle Fire and love it as I do my desktop version.

My only wish is that overall it was louder. It is hard to hear and work with without headphones.

I have two other somewhat similar apps, Nodebeat and SPC Musical Sketchpad and both of them are loud enough to use with the Kindle fire speaker...not great but usable.

I realize that the speakers in these small tablets are not great to start with but for now it's all we have.

Many thanks for your fine work.

Hi!

Many thanks for the kind words. :)

Yes, the Kindle Fire is *very* quiet isn't it??
I can but suggest attaching a global amplifier effect, and boosting the level, making sure you don't cause distortion!

It is also a bit weird to use in landscape; as the two speakers of course move to the side!
That said: I think it is a really nice device, I have two in my house used mainly for reading (and of course Mixtikl-ing!)

Android devices are such great value - I hope the effort of porting Mixtikl will prove useful for many future customers!

If you get a chance, would you be kind enough to leave a review on the Amazon store? Many thanks!

Best wishes,

Pete

Pete,

Thanks for the prompt reply.

I'm not sure what a global amplifier effect will do but I will give it a shot...unfortunately, even if it helps, I guess it would have to be done for every project?

I agree with you about Android devices...a great value and getting better all of the time due to the frenzied competition.

I hope lots of users of similar apps catch on to Mixtikl which I think is really on a whole higher plane of musical possibilities.

I will be glad to leave a review at the Amazon store.

Thanks,

Carl

The update looks good. I like the new interface. I have the full OS X desktop version. However, I also have the AU plugin version. Do you plan to update that soon as well? Not complaining just curious.

Thanks!

I downloaded the latest plugin version. The installer seemed to run fine. I then fired up Logic Pro (9.1.7) and tried to add it to a channel in a new project. It brings up the initial screen which shows that it's 5.1.0.6. It then immediately hangs Logic and shows the rotating apple wait icon. I let it sit for quite a while but nothing eventually happens it seems. So I have to force Logic to terminate.

So it seems that something isn't quite right. Either that, or I'm doing something wrong.

Any ideas?

-Mark

Just as an addendum. I tried it with both the 32 and 64 bit options with logic. In both cases it shows the correct version on the splash screen but also locks up Logic in both cases.

Hi Mark,

Thanks for the feedback, I've taken a look, and got the same hang as you.

I double-checked and saw that the compiler used in the project was set to the wrong value for some reason - that was the cause of the crash. Really bizarre!

So: I've rebuilt using the correct compiler, and it now works. I'll do some more testing, and let you know via the forum when I've uploaded the update...!

Best wishes,

Pete

How about that for a fast turn-around :)
