Steve Reich in the Afternoon

Post by Umcorps » Fri Jul 08, 2011 8:04 pm

A little fun demo of the new features in Mixtikl v4

This has been constructed from scratch using the new Noatikl content editor. This means that, if you are familar with Noatikl you can create mixes that do not rely on any of the pak content (other than the basic Noatikl seeding pak) and are entirely unique to you. Nevertheless, you can still share them like any other mix because all the data is saved in the mix file.

The piece is an obvious homage to a minimalist of some repute. All I have done is taken the most simple pattern forms - basically just 1/4 and 1/8th one note sequences and used the very powerful pattern morph parameters in Noatikl to recompose these patterns on the fly, both in terms of their melodic and rhythmic content.

So from the simplest of seeds, some rather nice things can grow.

As always with generative music, some mixes are better than others but if you allow this one to run for a while you should find it morphs and shifts in some quite unexpected ways.
