Voice Program Change Messages-point of friction

HI

Setup: not using Wotja internal sound generator, only external MIDI or Virtual MIDI within the iPad.

It seems Wotja loves to turn on "Send MIDI Bank/Patch" for every voice . I can turn it off for each voice as I go, but it turns back on when randomizations are applied. New voices have them enabled. The result is usually that my destination sounds all get switched all the time. Aghhh...

I get that the underlying philosophy of the app is random variation, but I'd like to set up my sound pallete and keep it constant.

When I run MIDI through an external DAM I can filter out incoming Program Changes ... but working within the iPad (which would be nice sometimes) this always seems to get me. My preferred sound generators cant be told to ignore Program Changes. There might be a Filter app to stop the messages but setting it all up each time takes away from my motivation to play.

So please ... Just let me turn off Program Changes globally ... Or at least for the Piece. Or make the setting stick through randomizing.

Thanks

Hi itf3!

Thanks for getting in touch. We considered doing this for the most recent update to Wotja, but just ran out of time.

Anyhow, as a result of your post here to the forum, I've just now gone to our internal "TODO" list, and made this the very first item.

So, I hope it'll get done for the next update, for both iOS and macOS.

Hoping this helps!

With best wishes,

Pete

Hi ltf3

Thanks very much for posting a clear rationale (and use case) for what you are looking for - doing that REALLY helps.

The more we can understand the need and the background to a particular request, the easier it is for us to figure out how easy or hard it is to do and thus, if we can, when we can fit it in to the To Do list (it is a very long list as there are no shortage of things to work on - that being the nature of a powerful tool like Wotja).

Thanks again and hope you enjoy the update when it comes out!

Tim

Hi ltf3!

We've just submitted this feature to Apple for review, in version 4.14.0

I hope you like it - any problems, do please let us know!

If you could also possibly take the time to live a Wotja review on the app store, that'd be appreciated!!

With best wishes,

Pete

Thanks!

I see the latest update has a Global setting to deactivate Program Changes. Huge relief for me!

Not to seem ungreatful , but perhaps the per voice toggle controls should deactivate when the Global switch is set to off. ... to avoid user - confusion. Unless I'm confused...

Thanks again!

Hi ltf3!

The voice parameter settings aren't changed; as otherwise you *would* get confused if you had a combination of voices, some sending MIDI patch change, some not; and found that they were *all* changed unexpectedly by the global toggle :)

To think of how it works, imagine that the voices are all trying to send patch change events (depending on their switch settings).

However, if the global switch is "off", then *none* of those patch change events actually get allowed out through the Wotja MIDI output ports; it works like a "global filter".

Hoping that explanation helps!

Best wishes,

Pete
