Wotja (and/or Noatikl) and Grooverider GR-16 - Midi question

Post by spidergod » Mon May 14, 2018 9:42 am

Hello
Just wondering if anyone is using Wotja (and or Noatikl) with the Grooverider GR-16 groovebox on the Ipad?

In the manual on page 26 section 7.3 it has how Pad are triggered via Midi.

I am confused on how to set this up in Wotja correctly.

The manual is here :

https://www.jimaudio.pro/grooverider/gr ... manual.pdf

Would love it if someone could advise the best way of getting this running.

Thanks

Not sure what you want to do but, from a quick scan of that bit of the manual it looks like the pads are repeatedly mapped chromatically across 2 octaves so that you could play them on a standard keyboard controller regardless of its keybed size.

So I would make use of this by forcing each individual voice in WJ onto a single, fixed midi note. The simplest (and most flexible) way to do that is to set the patch parameter of each voice to one that starts with a "D" prefix. So setting the patch to "D060 - High Bongo" will force that voice to play C3 only.
The next voice if set to D061 will play C3# only and so on.

This is the most flexible way because all voice types can be set to do this. So voices types you normally associate with melodic duties can be used to generate beats and pulses. It's also more flexible to force pattern voice types to one note this way than it is to bake it into the pattern syntax. Makes it much easier to reassign patterns to alternative voices later if you need to.

You don't need to have the "send bank and patch" box checked for this to work and, in fact, its probably better if you don't otherwise you may inadvertently mess up the settings on the Grooverider app.

With Grooverider in onmi mode it shouldn't matter much which voice is allocated to which midi channel in WJ.
