How to use Shure beta 58a with Micro BR

Postby swjli » Mon Jul 25, 2011 3:26 pm

Hi all,

I am new to recording and received a Micro BR with a Shure Beta 58a mic from my friends. When I connect the mic and try to record with my Micro BR, I find the volume very low, I have to almost shout and eat the microphone to get enough volume. I tried tune up the gain on Micro BR, but it doesn't work. Is that I will need a pre-amp in order to use this mic?

Thanks.

yes you are correct about having to use a preamp to make the most of your mic.The mic you have is a condenser style which requires 48 volts of phantom power, the micro br has a built-in mono mic which is capable of high quality recordings if configured correctly and proper singing technique is exercised.I have had good luck recording vocals with the built-in mic as well as using a super cheap computer mic through the external input(ext) which uses aprox 2.5 volts which the micro mbr supplies when the power on choice is selected.Back to your original question...I have read a lot of good reviews about ART preamps http://www.artproaudio.com/products.asp ... cat=1&id=1 which can be bought for as little as $50.

If you are new to recording and the micro mbr this forum and songcrafters http://songcrafters.org/community/index.php?board=90.0 have helped me much more than the manual or messing around on my own.Be patient and do a lot of reading up on the possibilities available inside the mbr.

cheers :D
