Wotja V4: Playlists (8m)

Post by imtim » Wed Jul 26, 2017 8:55 am

A quick tutorial for Wotja for iOS featuring live created generative music and melody. It's all about making and using playlists, and in 8 minutes it covers:

- Creating random mixes
- Set what text ("Text to Music" [TTM] or "Cut-up") is displayed on screen and in a file thumbnail
- Set text colour
- Rename mix file
- Add random cut-up text (haiku) to mix file
- Change mix file background colour
- Add reverb to a track
- Add background image to mix file
- Create / save playlist
- Add files to playlist
- Modify playlist settings
- Change sleep time
- Share / email a playlist (includes the mix files)
- Play a playlist (and chill for a bit)

The album created in this short tutorial can be found here: https://www.dropbox.com/s/90xqsc0ov3sl2 ... jabox?dl=0

We will do another video on how to share wotjas and wotja albums via dropbox, and also how to import them (in the meantime, here is how to do it).

You need Dropbox for iOS and Wotja for iOS. Wotja must not be loaded when you do the import (or that won't work at the moment).

Open the link (it will open in Dropbox) and at the top of the screen you will see the title "album.wotjabox". Tap the top right button (3 dots), select "Export" and then from the pop up action sheet select "Open In..." and then select "Copy to Wotja". Wotja will then load and you see a popup "Enter the file name to import" and it is pre-filled with "album" (as that is what it was called). Press OK when done and the album will load! Easy.

Remember, this was all done in one take, and none of the mixes were modified in any way (except a reverb, added to one). Also, the TTM (Text to Music) parameters are all the default settings, and those can be adjusted to change how the melody repeats and improvises and a lot more. We will do a video on that, too, but for now see the TTM parameters described in the user guide: https://intermorphic.com/wotja/guide/#i ... tterns-ttm).

Text captions are provided if you want them (turn those on in the Youtube player).

This tutorial was created on an iPhone 7 with Wotja 4.9.
