Fixed Pattern C3 & C#3 -need some advice please.

Post by spidergod » Wed May 16, 2018 10:16 am

Hello

Need some help in understanding how to get just C3 and also just C#3 to trigger

Just wondering if someone has the pattern syntax to do just that?

I am a bit confused over the pattern syntax.

thanks

Try this.

2 voices into 1 synth voice.

voice 1 plays 1/4 notes on C

voice 2 plays 1/8 notes on C sharp

Pattern syntax is just normal rhythmic style patterns. +ve values are note durations -ve values are rest durations. Note selection is forced to one note using a D prefix midi patch setting. Actual sound output depends on whats in the synth definition. You'll only hear the midi patch drum voices specified if the synth definition is empty (ie if the default GM synth is active).

Hope it works.

Forgot to mention but the other important parameter for drum programming is "Articulation". In melodic voices it controls the how long a note is held from fully legato to staccato. With drum voices it determines the strike duration which can be important if the voice uses something other than a basic attack/release envelope. Combined with the velocity settings it can add some nice, subtle variety to even the most basic patterns.

Eg, the hi hat voice here.
